Tina Lam and Michael Cheng have bought Presidio Terrace, a private San Francisco street lined with expensive homes and the rich residents apparently had no idea the common spaces were up for sale. The street was once restricted to white people only.
The couple bought the street for $90,000 in a city-run auction stemming from an unpaid tax bill by the residents. Tina and Cheng outlasted several other bidders.
According to court documents filed in Superior Court in San Francisco County, the residents of the San Francisco neighborhood which is filled with mansions are suing the Asian couple for quietly purchasing their street at a city-run auction in 2015.
According to Forbes, those who purchased property at Presidio Terrace could sell only to white people ― that is, until 1948, when a U.S. Supreme Court ruling banned racial segregation in neighborhoods.
