A couple (Tanner Broadwell,26, from Florida and Nikki Walsh, 24,) decided to sell all their possessions so they could sail around the world in their 28-foot sailboat. Now, they are left with nothing after their boat sank just two days into their journey. They started their journey from the marina in Tarpon Springs but about 48 hours later, the emergency services were called to rescue their capsized boat in the Gulf of Mexico. While others say they are very funny, one online user called them “the most foolish couple on earth.”
The bottom of their boat reportedly struck an unseen object in the sea and started taking in water. The couple had no other option than to evacuate their sailboat. However, they had their mobile phones, their social security cards and their dog with them as they evacuate the boat.
According to the couple in an interview with Tampa Bay Times, they planned to escape modern life. Broadwell said: “I sold everything I had to do this. I lost everything in a matter of 20 minutes.”
Broadwell who worked in marketing for timeshares added that they actually decided to embark on the journey because they were both tired of the sales lifestyle and also tired “of doing things to make people do the things they don’t want to do”.
According to him, after selling all their belongings including his SUV, he bought the 1969 boat for $5,000. The couple eventually named the boath ‘Lagniappe’. They reportedly spent about the same amount in restoring the boat. What is the point in risking everything for nothing?

They would have continued their journey after repairing the boat but the coast guard told them that it could cost up to $10,000 to remove and restore it but they only had $90 left.
Interestingly, Broadwell said he was ready to pursue his dream of traveling around the world and he planned to buy another boat as soon as he has the money. But for now, it seems setting up a Go Fund Me account is the next way to go.
