Saudi Arabia is struggling to change it’s bad image in the world. Just few days ago, Saudi finally allowed women to vote for the first time in election. Now, same Saudi Arabia, a strict Muslim country has surprisingly announced the formation of a military coalition of 34 countries to fight terrorism in the Islamic world.
The alliance would share intelligence, combat violent ideology and deploy troops if necessary. However, there has been confusion over the initiative, with some of the countries named as members of the coalition caught unawares by the announcement.
A list published by the Saudi state news agency included Nigeria despite the fact that Nigeria has not yet decided whether to join the alliance or not. According to Buhari’s spokesman Garuba Shehu, this is based on the fact that Nigeria is currently battling a big terrorist group ‘Boko Haram’ back home.
Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir says the Islamic world must take a stand against terrorism.
