Anthony Joshua has won the re-match against Andy Ruiz AKA the “Destroyer” and collected back his title as the world heavyweight boxing champion. After the fight, former Klitschko manager, Bernd Bönte sharply criticized Ruiz, saying that Ruiz was disappointing, brought nothing to the ring and it was a one-sided fight. He added that Joshua had the scene completely under control and Ruiz punched planless and helpless.
Subsequently, the 30-year-old Ruiz admitted in the ring that he was not well prepared for the fight. In his own words: “I should have prepared better, I had too much weight, but I do not want to look for excuses.” Ruiz added that “It was Joshua’s night, he deserved to win.”
Bönte further described Ruiz’s loss as “absurdity” because he sees no reason why people should pay to watch a fight where Ruiz collects ten million dollars for such poor performance.
Joshua who regained the IBF, WBA, WBO and IBO titles with a unanimous points victory in Saudi Arabia, claimed he had health issues prior to his previous match with Ruis at Madison Square Gardens. He said:
“I had some issue with my health which I was going through for a long time.”
